This document is intended to serve as a forward-looking companion to the American Enterprise Institute's Annual Report. Founded in 1943, AEI is one of the nation's oldest and most respected think tanks. The Institute is dedicated to the principles of limited government and free enterprise and works to strengthen the foundations of freedom and civil society through scholarly research, open debate, and publications. AEI's seventy scholars and fellows and more than one hundred affiliated policy experts include some of America's foremost economists, legal scholars, political scientists, and foreign policy experts. They are examining the full range of U.S. domestic and foreign policies, with special emphasis on economic policy, government regulation, international security, and social welfare issues.
AEI scholars' articles and op-eds are published regularly in the nation's leading newspapers--the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Washington Post publish more essays from AEI scholars than from scholars at Hoover, Brookings, Cato, Heritage, and CSIS combined. They appear on television public affairs programs, testify frequently before Congress, and speak regularly at academic, business, and professional gatherings. The Institute also sponsors hundreds of conferences, seminars, and lectures each year, including the Bradley Lecture Series and the annual Irving Kristol Lecture. Most of AEI's public events are also now available for viewing on our website.
AEI's regular publications include books; monographs; The American magazine; e-newsletters; and fifteen different periodical reports as part of our Outlook series, including Economic Outlook, Financial Services Outlook, Health Policy Outlook, Education Outlook, National Security Outlook, Tax Policy Outlook, Latin American Outlook, Liability Outlook, Asian Outlook, Development Policy Outlook, and Middle Eastern Outlook. These publications are distributed to government officials, business executives, journalists, academics, donors, and subscribers.
The following pages summarize AEI's current research agenda, as of May 2008. Prospectuses for individual research programs, descriptions of recent and forthcoming projects and publications, and our annual report are available upon request.
