On October 5, 2007, AEI convened the third "Tocqueville on China" working group. The session involved a series of presentations designed to elicit the role of nongovernmental organizations in Chinese society. Discussion was informed by Alexis de Tocqueville's analysis of French and American civic associations. Below is a brief synopsis of the presentations and the commentary that followed.
