AEIOpeners: Mark J. Perry's reading list

Currently on sabbatical from teaching economics and finance at the University of Michigan's Flint campus, Mark J. Perry is best known as the creator and editor of the popular economics blog Carpe Diem. While at AEI, Perry writes about economic and financial issues for The American magazine and the AEIdeas blog.

"Freedom's Forge: How American Business Produced Victory in World War II," Arthur Herman, 2012

Fascinating. It's a story that's not been told that way before, about the success of capitalism in World War II.

"Throw Them All Out: How Politicians and Their Friends Get Rich Off Insider Stock Tips, Land Deals and Cronyism That Would Send the Rest of Us to Prison," Peter Schweizer, 2011

It exposes insider trading on Capitol Hill, which has been going on a long time.

"Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed, and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon," Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner, 2011

On the financial crisis, it's a nice inside view. I like the combination of the storytelling from a New York Times reporter and a Wall Street insider.
