A diagnosis at odds with a treatment plan

Abstract

In Excellent Health provides a lengthy and impressive recapitulation of published research on health care quality by Scott Atlas of Stanford University and the Hoover Institution. Atlas provides an antidote for any readers who might have overdosed on one too many critiques of US health care by the Commonwealth Foundation. His data-based arguments about the many achievements of our nation’s health system provide necessary balance to an often one-sided “debate.” Unfortunately, this discussion of how the US stacks up compared to other major countries in treating serious illnesses seems disconnected from disappointing policy reform recommendations in the closing chapter.
