This book comprises the proceedings of a conference cosponsored by AEI and National Journal. Representatives from government, academia, the media, and the general public discuss proposals for improving government regulations, such as the sunset legislation, the legislative veto, the regulatory budget, case-by-case reform, mandatory applications of cost-benefit analysis, and the Carter administration's regulatory reform initiatives. More general perspectives on regulatory reform make up the remainder of the volume. It begins with overviews of the issues and proposed approaches to reform and concludes with critiques of proposals for reform and prospects for improvement in regulation.

Marvin H. Kosters is a resident scholar at AEI. Timothy B. Clark is a National Journal correspondent. James C. Miller III is codirector of AEI's Center for the Study of Government Regulation.
