But a month before the historic pronouncement, National Review, in an unprecedent move, devoted an entire issue to "Moral Clarity in the Nuclear Age," an analysis of the arguments for and against nuclear armament by noted scholar, writer, Catholic layman Michael Novak.
Novak's landmark essay, his assessment of the bishops' pastoral letter, and his discussion of the effects the letter might have in a geopolitical context appear together in book form with an introduction by William F. Buckley Jr. and foreword by Billy Graham.
