About This Event
The American Republic took flight on two wings: not only on the reason of the Enlightenment but also on faith in the God of the ancient Hebrews, the God of liberty. In On Two Wings: Humble Faith and Common Sense at the American Founding (Encounter Books, 2001), author Michael Novak explores these two influences that propelled the founding. Not only was the American tradition influenced by the faith of the founders, he writes, but even the philosophy of the Enlightenment was placed in a religious context. This AEI book forum will begin with a presentation of the book’s essential arguments by the author, followed by commentary and a general discussion. Copies of On Two Wings will be available.
