About This Event

The private sector has yet to be included in a significant way in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, even though many believe its participation is needed in order for democracy and an open-market economy to succeed in the nation. To this end, Afghan-American entrepreneurs have organized the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce (AACC), a new partnership between Afghans in the United States and in Afghanistan along with non-Afghan Americans, dedicated to the promotion of the private sector's role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan. At this event, Ishaq Shahryar, Afghan ambassador to the United States; Mahmood Karzai, cofounder of the AACC; and Willard Workman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will discuss the challenges faced by Afghan entrepreneurs.
