About This Event

Following September 11 the celebrated Italian journalist and writer Oriana Fallaci broke ten years of silence with an essay--later expanded to a book--entitled The Rage and the Pride. In passionate and sometimes brutal language, Ms. Fallaci writes of America and Europe, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, drawing on her years of journalism in the Middle East and her experiences living in both Italy and the United States. The book instantly became a European bestseller, incurring the wrath of those uncomfortable with an outspoken defense of Western values and an uncompromising critique of the enemies of the West. On the occasion of the publication of the English-language edition of The Rage and the Pride, Oriana Fallaci will read excerpts (newly written for the English edition) and discuss reaction to the book in Europe, including lawsuits against her in France.

This event is the first in a series of discussions of anti-Americanism, anti-Europeanism, and anti-Semitism in Europe and the United States, organized by the New Atlantic Initiative at AEI.
