The world—not just the United States—felt the pain of the 2008 financial crisis, and governments rushed to change the way the financial industry was regulated. While from Washington, DC, the Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee has been tracking the progress of financial regulation in America, shadow financial committees around the world have been following regional developments. For this event, committees from Asia, Japan, Europe, Latin America and Australia will gather in Washington, DC, to discuss the impact of the financial crisis on countries in these regions, relevant lessons and policies to adopt. At the public symposium, representatives from each committee will discuss their chapter of an academic publication expected to be released later this year. At the press briefing, the committees will release a joint statement about what each region can learn from this crisis as it prepares to face future hurdles.
