| Some poetry aims merely to say, in a compact and memorable way, what could be expressed in prose. And some poetry aims to say what can be expressed only in poetry. In his new collection The Fall and Other Poems, J. Bottum--"Books and Arts" editor of the Weekly Standard and poetry editor of First Things--seeks in the turn of the seasons an image for and an instance of the religious and philosophical foundation that poetry alone can describe. The evening will begin with a reading and comments on the book's essential argument by the author, followed by a general discussion. Copies of The Fall and Other Poems will be available for purchase. |
