The terrorist attacks of September 11 have provoked a resurgence of patriotic feeling unequaled in a generation. Americans have rediscovered the things that unite them while overcoming various differences, both partisan and social. Drawing deeply on American history and on his recently published book, Making Patriots (University of Chicago Press, 2001), AEI scholar Walter Berns will discuss the character and prospects of this new patriotism.
