| Are Europeans anti-Semitic? More and more Americans seem to be convinced that they are. In the last few months articles by America's top journalists pointed to the burning of synagogues, wreckage of Jewish cemeteries, and a rise in anti-Israel rhetoric as signs of resurgent European anti-Semitism. There have even been assertions that the absence of anti-Semitism during the past half-century was a historical anomaly for the Old Continent. Has Europe really been infected with this ugly illness, and how do such accusations affect the transatlantic relationship? These are the topics for the first debate in a series of events on anti-Americanism, anti-Europeanism, and anti-Semitism in Europe and the United States, organized by the New Atlantic Initiative at AEI. |
