Cover of An Unlikely Conservative, by Linda Chavez
Linda Chavez, known for her work as a former Reagan administration official, is a weekly syndicated columnist and political analyst, and president of the Center
for Equal Opportunity, a nonprofit research organization devoted to colorblind public policy. Her new book (part of which is adapted in The American Enterprise) tells the story of her intellectual evolution, from an instinctive commitment to affirmative action to a fundamental questioning of the fairness and effectiveness of policies that promote the use of racial preferences. Through the scope of her experiences, Chavez's book provides insight on issues surrounding affirmative action, multicultural education, immigration and assimilation, and other race-conscious public policies.
