Press Briefing and Luncheon
Start:  Monday, May 8, 2000  12:30 PM
End:  Monday, May 8, 2000  1:30 PM
Location:  Wohlstetter Conference Center, Twelfth Floor, AEI
1150 Seventeenth Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036
Directions to AEI

Feminist groups will celebrate Equal Pay Day on May 11 to mark the day when women’s earnings will supposedly have caught up to those of men from the previous year (i.e., women’s 1999 earnings + earnings for 135 days in 2000 = men’s 1999 earnings). These groups will ask Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Fair Pay Act, two bills that would require government bureaucrats to set wage guidelines for women. These concerns are misplaced, however, and the proposed solutions will be harmful to working women and to the U.S. economy. Diana Furchtgott-Roth and Christine Stolba, the authors of Women's Figures, and Christina Hoff Sommers, author of Who Stole Feminism?, will explain why.
