Daniele Capezzone--an unabashed European supporter of American values and the secretary of the Italian Radical Party (Radicali italiani)--will discuss his proposal for the creation of an organization of democratic countries to support democratic movements and destabilize dictatorships. He believes that the United Nations has failed in its task, and that no single country, not even the United States, can successfully organize a global democratic revolution.
The Italian Radical Party, while not well known, has had a greater political and social effect than the larger and better-known parties. From divorce to abortion, from support of democratic revolution in the Soviet satellites to liberalization of drug use penalties, the Radicals have fought for individual liberty against organized power, whether of the state or of other political parties and institutions.
