The fate of the F-35 Lightning II program hangs in the balance. The costly and controversial program has been a constant target for budget cutters, but their criticisms concentrate almost solely on problems of program and schedule rather than on the technological, tactical, operational, and strategic value of the Lightning II.

Please join us for a conversation in which the authors of the January 2013 AEI report “Mass and Supremacy: A Comprehensive Case for the F-35,” representatives of the armed services, and other analysts will review the rationale for the F-35. Discussion topics will include issues with international partners; operational employment, including anti-access environments; and the centrality of the F-35 to service modernization and to the vitality of the US defense industrial base.
