Andrew G. Biggs, most recently the principal deputy commissioner of the Social Security Administration, has joined the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) as a resident scholar, Christopher DeMuth, president of AEI, announced today. "The next president, whether Republican or Democrat, will have to confront the serious long-term problems of our Social Security system," said Mr. DeMuth. "Andrew Biggs is steeped in the details of the program and knowledgeable about reform efforts. His voice will be an important one in the coming debate. We welcome Andrew to AEI."
A graduate of the Queen’s University of Belfast, Cambridge University, the University of London, and the London School of Economics, Mr. Biggs has also been an associate director of the National Economic Council at the White House and a staff member of President Bush’s 2001 Commission to Strengthen Social Security (known as the Moynihan-Parsons Commission).
At AEI, Mr. Biggs will conduct an ambitious program of research, writing, and analysis on Social Security issues, including the various proposals for reform.
