FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 8, 2008

AEI president Christopher DeMuth announced today that Hassan Mneimneh will join the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research as a visiting fellow. Mneimneh is the former director of and manager of documentation projects for the Iraq Memory Foundation, a Baghdad-based project that seeks to catalog and document the atrocities of the Saddam Hussein regime. In these roles, he oversaw the collection, classification, and exploitation of millions of pages of official Baath Party documents. Previously, he was the codirector of the Iraq Research and Documentation Project at Harvard University.

At AEI, Mneimneh will conduct research on al Qaeda and other jihadist organizations, with an eye toward tracking their online presence and ideological evolution.

He is a regular contributor to the London-based pan-Arab newspaper Al-Hayat. His recent publications include "The Syrian Regime and Fatah al-Islam: Responsibility and Denial," "Creative Chaos and International Jihad: Dangers and Costs," and "The Success of the Security Plan and the Future of the U.S. Role in Iraq," all in Arabic.

Mneimneh is also the coauthor of "Manual for a 'Raid'" (with Kanan Makiya in The New York Review of Books) and the author of "The New Intra-Arab Cultural Space: The Debates over an American 'Letter,'" in Social Research

Mneimneh received a B.A. from the American University of Beirut, a M.A. from Georgetown University, and a M.A. from Harvard University.

Hassan Mneimneh is available for interviews and can be reached at 202.862.7176 or Hassan.Mneimneh@aei.org. For additional media inquiries, please contact Véronique Rodman at 202.862.4870 or vrodman@aei.org.
