Freedom Betrayed
Freedom Betrayed
By Michael A. Ledeen
AEI Press, $24.95, 167 pages

Review excerpt:

In Freedom Betrayed, both Mr. Ledeen's analysis and his prescriptions for the future are sound. The promotion of democracy worldwide ought to be a fundamental, if not the only, tenet of American foreign policy. Our foreign policy should also have a firm moral and ideological footing, fusing moral and realistic imperatives. As Mr. Ledeen rightly points out, without a strong and active America, the continued success of the global democratic revolution is highly unlikely.

Paula Dobriansky is former director of European and Soviet affairs at the National Security Council. Michael A. Ledeen is a resident scholar in the Freedom Chair at AEI.
