Fiscal Policy and Taxes

AEI's program on fiscal policy and tax reform produces studies that assess the full range of issues presented by the tax reform and budget proposals, with particular emphasis on income distribution, transition costs, marginal tax rates, and international taxation of corporate income.  This section of the website gathers together AEI research, books, and events focused on fiscal policy and taxes.

Feature: AEI Scholars on the Budget and Deficit

AEI scholars have been weighing in on the U.S. fiscal situation and though their recommendations for how to fix it may vary, the underlying consensus is apparent: it is unsustainable.

  • Martin Feldstein, a member of AEI's Council of Academic Advisers, says President Obama must cut the remaining stimulus spending and avoid costly new initiatives like tax cuts and income transfers to low- and middle-income households.

  • Norman J. Ornstein argues that political hyperpartisanship in Congress is blocking real progress on balancing the budget.

  • David Frum discusses the Congressional Budget Office's prediction of weak growth and slow progress against unemployment.

  • Joseph Antos and members of the National Research Council offer recommendations for policy changes that could get the nation back on track.
