November 30:
"Winning the War against Terror - Next Steps". Three distinguished panels discussed strategies for dealing with terrorists and the states that sponsor them. Speakers included Chuck Hagel (R-NE) Iain Duncan Smith, Effie Fein, Jane Harman (D-Calif), Mansoor Ijaz, Jeane Kirkpatrick, Benjamin Netanyahu, Onur Oymen, Richard Perle, and Constanze Stelzenmueller. September 28:
Roundtable Discussion on Terrorism. NAI convened a discussion in Berlin on the subject of combating international terrorism. Prince Hassan of Jordan, Noble Peace Prize recipient David Trimble, and U.S. Congressman Mike Pence were among those who participated. This event was sponsored jointly by NAI and the Aspen Institute Berlin.

Discussion with Zhaksybek Kulekeev, Minister of Economy and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

June 28-29:
Istanbul Security Conference sponsored by the ARI Movement. An NAI delegation participating in the conference included Jeffrey Gedmin, CSIS fellow Antony Blinken, Thomas Donnelly and Reuel Gerecht of the Project for the New American Century, Dean Godson of the London Daily Telegraph, Jane’s Defence Weekly correspondent Steve Rodan, Washington Post columnist Robert Kagan, and UPI editor in chief John O'Sullivan.

Roundtable Discussion on the British Elections. Chaired by Martin Koffel, chairman and CEO of the URS Corporation. London.

May 28:
Roundtable Discussion in Paris, hosted by NAI. Henry Kissinger discussed the future of ballistic missile defense, the ABM treaty, and NATO enlargement with Marc Perrin de Brichambaut of the French Ministry of Defense; Robert Cooper of the UK’s Cabinet office; AEI’s Richard Perle; Michel Foucher of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and several other NAI guests.

Roundtable Discussion with Emyr Jones Parry, political director of the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Roundtable Discussion with Club 2015, a group of Russian business leaders and politicians, hosted by Richard Perle.

May 1:
Presentation of NAI Freedom Award to Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary. Participants in the award presentation included Henry Hyde, Chairman of the House International Relations Committee; New York Governor George Pataki; Jeane Kirkpatrick of AEI; John O'Sullivan of United Press International; and Jeffrey Gedmin. Panel Discussion, "Where Europe Ends? Integrating the Balkans into the West," with Bulgarian Prime Minister Ivan Kostov, William Kristol of The Weekly Standard, Marc E. Leland of Marc E. Leland & Associates, and United Press International’s John O'Sullivan.

April 23:
Panel Discussion, "The European Case for European Defense–and an American Reply," with Charles Grant of the Center for European Reform (London), Christoph Bertram of the Institut fuer Wissenschaft und Politik (Berlin), Gilles Andreani of the French Foreign Ministry, AEI’s Richard Perle and former CIA director R. James Woolsey. Martin Walker of United Press International served as the panel chairman.

April 23:
Roundtable Discussion on NATO Enlargement. Senior representatives from the applicant countries of Central and Eastern Europe discussed issues surrounding enlargement.

April 2:
Discussion with Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister Jan Figel.  At this small NAI roundtable, Deputy Foreign Minister Figel discussed NATO and EU enlargement, Balkan tensions, and Slovakia's role in promoting stability. 

March 28:
Luncheon Discussion with Former Israeli Brigadier-General Effi Eitam (Fein).  General Fein argued that the potential for a wider war in the Middle East is growing.  Fein emphasized the necessity of U.S. leadership.  He also argued for concessions from Egypt and Jordan to help solve the Palestinian problem.

March 27:
Luncheon Discussion with Czech Senator Michael Zantovsky.  Senator Zantovsky discussed CEE regional issues, NATO expansion, and EU relations.  The Senator voiced concerns about the pattern of Russian behavior in the region – including increased intelligence activities and economic influence. 

March 21:
Roundtable Discussion with Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. Prime Minister Djindjic spoke on what he envisions for the estimated three-year stabilization process in post-Milosevic Serbia.  This event took place in the Wohlstetter Conference Center of the American Enterprise Institute.

March 7:
Speech by NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson.  Lord Robertson discussed current trends in the transatlantic relationship, including the ongoing debate on European Security and Defense Policy and U.S. missile defense plans. William Schneider, Jr., responded.  This event was hosted by NAI and Senator Fred Thompson.  Click here for a complete transcript. 

March 2:
Panel Discussion: Hans-Ulrich Klose of the German Bundestag’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.  “The Potential for Conflict and Cooperation in the New Transatlantic Agenda.” Klose focused on Europe's apprehension to American plans for missile defense.  He argued that America's allies should overcome their aversion and cooperate more closely with the United States.  Carla Robbins of the Wall Street Journal and Jeffrey Gedmin served as commentators. This event was co-organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

February 20:
Breakfast Roundtable with Balkan delegation. A group of leading academics, journalists and politicians from the Balkans met with a small group of NAI invitees to discuss U.S. policy towards the Balkans and current regional issues.

February 15:
Panel Discussion on Terrorism: "Intractable Conflicts, How Democracies Deal with Terrorists, and Other Challenges for the New Administration." Panelists included Iain Duncan Smith, Congresswoman Jane Harman, Senator Jon Kyl, Benjamin Netanyahu, Richard Perle, David Trimble, and R. James Woolsey. February 1:
NAI Strategic Dialogue in Paris. A small group of Americans met with French government officials, policy leaders, and journalists in Paris to discuss transatlantic issues and common strategies. This event was co-organized by The Brookings Institution’s Center on the United States and France.

January 30:
Breakfast Roundtable Discussion with Mircea Geoana. Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana met with a group of American foreign policy experts to discuss current issues on the Romanian foreign policy agenda. This event took place at The American Enterprise Institute.

January 12-13:
London Conference: "Britain and America; A Strategic Dialogue." Approximately sixty-five participants from Europe, the United States, and the Middle East took part in this NAI roundtable on missile defense, ESDP, Middle East security, and selected economic and social issues. This conference was co-organized by The Daily Telegraph.
