Many scholars at AEI write about European affairs. Their work is posted on this site, as is earlier work from a project AEI sponsored for a number of years called the New Atlantic Initiative.

Who We Are

The New Atlantic Initiative (NAI) is an international nonpartisan organization dedicated to revitalizing and expanding the Atlantic community of democracies.

Objective

The NAI's central objective is to strengthen Atlantic cooperation in the post-cold war world by bringing together Americans and Europeans to work toward common goals, including:

  • The reinvigoration of Atlantic institutions of political cooperation and consultation.
  • The admission of Europe's fledgling democracies into the institutions of Atlantic defense and European economic cooperation, notably NATO and the European Union.
  • The establishment of free trade between an enlarged European Union and the North American Free Trade Area as a complement to strengthening global free trade.

The NAI also sponsors conferences, debates, and roundtable discussions in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere.

Global Business in Iran: Interactive

A new AEI web tool, "Global Business in Iran: Interactive," documents major financial transactions with the Islamic Republic between 2000 and 2007. The findings, based on open-source reporting, are organized by country, economic sector, company, and financial institution. The Institute's researchers have documented more than 300 transactions amounting to more than $150 billion. The interactive tool will be updated regularly as new information comes in.
