Visiting Scholar Tomas J. Philipson

Tomas J. Philipson is a leading health economist specializing in the economics of pharmaceutical development. An economics department faculty member and a professor at the Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago, he has also taught at Yale University. Philipson has held research positions at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and at the World Bank. Most recently he served as senior economic adviser to both the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As a visiting scholar at AEI, Philipson will study the economics of drug development, as well as health care trends and inequality in the United States.
