A former public high school social studies teacher, Rick Hess previously taught education and politics at the University of Virginia. He is a faculty associate at the Harvard University Program on Education Policy and Governance and serves on the Review Board for the Broad Prize in Urban Education. At AEI, Hess works on a diverse range of K-12 and higher education issues including accountability, charter schooling and school choice, educational politics, collective bargaining, No Child Left Behind, teacher and administrative preparation and licensure, school governance, college affordability, and entrepreneurship.
