The coronavirus pandemic has revealed a sharp rift between how American families want to live and the resources at their disposal — raising important questions about US policy efforts to support caregivers and working families.
AEI’s Angela Rachidi and Jennifer M. Silva of Indiana University summarize the latest efforts by AEI and the Brookings Institution to better understand the needs of families and caregivers in the 21st century. They assess how the unique challenges of the pandemic inform long-standing efforts to improve family life in the United States, such as childcare and paid leave reform. Following these presentations, AEI’s Scott Winship and Jane Waldfogel of Columbia University discuss potential pathways to family policy reform in 2021.
