To develop and enhance economic policies, such as free markets, that have been shown to provide a better life for all people — whether in the United States or around the world — AEI Economic Policy scholars research and study policy areas that include, the US economy, economic growth, innovation and productivity, US monetary policy, inflation, the federal budget, jobs and labor market policies, public finance, the US Census Bureau, poverty and income inequality, taxes and tax reform, Social Security, pensions and other retirement issues, infrastructure, the Federal Trade Commission (specifically consumer protection, antitrust, and competition policies), international trade and globalization, international finance and the financial systems of global and emerging markets, and the eurozone.

Additional issues covered by scholars in this research division are health care economics (including the Food and Drug Administration and pharmaceuticals), the Open Source Policy Center, the US housing market, and financial services such as the regulation of banks.
