RELEASE: EU expert: May must stand up to her party at Brexit summit

This week’s EU summit has been hailed as a final chance for Prime Minister Theresa May to negotiate Brexit promises. EU expert Dalibor Rohac is available to comment on what’s at stake as the European countries come to the table. He says:

“When she arrived at Number 10 after the Brexit referendum, Theresa May was handed an impossible brief: to deliver a version of Brexit that existed in the imagination of Leave supporters. It is against that difficult backdrop that Ms. May’s performance in the Brexit negotiations must be judged.

As the UK-EU negotiations focus on the critically important question of the Irish border, it is imperative that the UK Prime Minister stand up – not so much to the EU – but rather to the extremists in her own party and in her governing coalition. A lot depends on it, including the UK’s and Europe’s economic health and their global posture [during] an increasingly perilous time in Western history.”
