Bio

Edward Conard is an adjunct fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he works on US economic policy — in particular, on the effect of taxes, government policies, and finance on risk-taking and innovation.

A founding member of Bain Capital, Mr. Conard was in charge of the New York office and the acquisitions of large industrial companies. Previously, he worked for Wasserstein Perella & Co., an investment bank that specialized in mergers and acquisitions, and Bain & Company, a management consulting firm, where he led the firm’s industrial practice.

Since 2008, Mr. Conard has been focused on his writing. His books include two top 10 New York Times bestselling books: “The Upside of Inequality: How Good Intentions Undermine the Middle Class” (Penguin/Portfolio, 2016) and “Unintended Consequences: Why Everything You’ve Been Told About the Economy Is Wrong” (Penguin/Portfolio, 2012). He is also a contributor to “United States Income, Wealth, Consumption, and Inequality” (Oxford University Press, September 2020).

Mr. Conard has been widely published, including in National Review, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and USA Today. His broadcast appearances include BBC News, Bloomberg TV, CNBC, Fox Business Network, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and All In with Chris Hayes,” and Yahoo Finance.

Mr. Conard has a master of business administration degree from Harvard Business School and a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Michigan.
